Lijiang Old Town (Ancient Town)
DAY 2
Tiger Leaping Gorge
Drive two hours to Tiger Leaping Gorge, hike for seven hours to Walnut Grove, and stay overnight. About two hours climbing, two hours descending, and three hours on a flat mountain path in one day. Total of seven hours, depending on your pace.
DAY 3
Middle and Upper Gorge
Hike down to the Middle Gorge, which has a stunning view along the river. Then hike about 3 hours down and back up, then drive a short distance to the Lower Gorge, and cross the Yangzte River by ferry. Drive 3 hours to a beautiful mountain guesthouse, in a premitive Naxi Village, and stay overnight.
DAY 4
Yanke Village and Baoshan Stone Town
Enjoy a hearty breakfast at the lovely guesthouse. Begin with a 3.3-kilometre hike on a cement and mountain path, followed by about 2 kilometres on a rocky trail with stairs down to Yanke Village. This should take approximately 3 hours in total. Afterwards, walk to Yanke Village, where we will have lunch with a local Naxi family. Then, hike along an almost flat trail with some metal stairs to Baoshan Stone Town for about 7 kilometres, ending the day at a small guesthouse. Take some time to rest!

Baoshan Stone Town, was built on a big rock by Naxi ancestors, to defend themselves from the Mongolian army during the 1300s.
DAY 5
The Village walk
It's a big day! Start hiking from Baoshan and climb for about 4 hours through terrace fields, villages, and along a muddy or rocky path high above the Yangtze River. Cross through stone channels with a torch. Have a picnic lunch on the way. Then continue walking for nearly 3 hours on a flat or downhill track to a small village, home to only three families, and stay overnight in a local Naxi family house that has no Wi-Fi. Enjoy the peace and quiet with only the stars overhead. Sleep in dorm beds with shared showers and a country toilet. Walk through small villages, meeting cows along the way, and pass magnificent terrace fields.

Navigate the caves, which are man-made tunnels within the rocky mountain, to connect the villages on both sides of the mountain, used by postmen in the 1960s.
DAY 6
The Yangtze River and Pumi Village
Hike through the pine forests, pass by primitive villages, then descend to the Yangtze River. Walk downhill along the country path or road for about 2-3 hours today. Afterwards, take the ferry for approximately 1 hour. Meet the driver at the end and drive for about 2 hours. Then, hike again to reach an ethnic Pumi village, where we will stay overnight in a local family guesthouse, with dormitories, shared bathroom, country toilet, and delicious local food cooked over an open fire.

DAY 7
The Primative Forest and Lugu Lake
Another big day today! Climb over the mountain behind the village through the primitive forest for 3-4 hours, and enjoy a picnic at the top. The descent is slow and long, about 2 hours. Meet the driver at the end, then drive for 1 hour to Lugu Lake. Stay overnight in a lovely boutique hotel with a view overlooking the lake, for 2 nights.

To protect the lake, most lakeside hotels were closed down in previous years. Fortunately, this lovely hotel is located in the village, offering a view of the lake.
Drive back to Lijiang in 4 hours. Enjoy exploring Lijiang/Shuhe old town in the afternoon. Departure flight from Lijiang in the evening.
